Poplar’s Girls Fall Short In League Games

Poplar’s girls’ basketball squad dropped conference games against Malta and Glasgow during the weekend. Poplar’s girls’ basketball team lost to a strong Malta squad, 78-36, on Friday, Jan. 14. Malta gained a 22-4 advantage in the first quarter. The Indians closed the margin to 34-22 during the second quarter. The M-ettes then struck for 27 points in the third quarter for a 61-30 lead.

Poplar’s wrestlers put together a strong showing at the Choteau Invitational during the weekend. In the boys’ standings, the Indians scored 57 points for 18th place. Jase Frederick earned second place at 120 pounds. He pinned Valier’s Chantz Connelly in 3:09 and then pinned Anaconda’s Aaron Micheles in 2:46. Shot clocks and baseball were given approval during the Montana High School Association’s annual meeting in Butte on Monday, Jan. 17. Schools voted the addition of 35-second shot clocks for boys’ and girls’ basketball. In addition, baseball was approved as a sport for the Montana High School Association. 28 Bison Transferred To Tribes Program

Twenty-eight Yellowstone bison were transferred to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation Jan. 13. The transfer was part of a program to divert more disease-free bison away from slaughter. Bearcubs Drop Close Game To Dodson

Frazer’s girls put up a good fight but lost to Dodson, 6148, on Friday, Jan. 14. Dodson led by a 26-17 halftime margin, but the Bearcubs battled back to trail by only a 42-40 score at the end of the third quarter. Angel Nelligan scored 11 points and hit three three-pointers during the third quarter. Nelligan finished with 16 points to lead the Bearcubs. Liana Jackson added 10 points.
