Area football players were selected as alternates for the 76th edition of the Montana East-West Shrine Football Game. Wolf Point’s Juliun Benson was voted an alternate at cornerback for the East team. Benson was an All-Conference and All-State selection for the Wolves this season. Culbertson’s boys’ basketball squad put up a good fight before losing to a strong Lustre Christian team, 54-41, in Culbertson on Saturday, Dec. 17. The undefeated Lions gained a 12-7 during the first quarter of action. The Cowboys responded with 13 points in the second period to cut the margin to 22-20 at the half. Lustre accounted for 18 points in the third quarter to earn a 40-30 advantage.

Poplar’s girls’ basketball team cruised to a 60-39 league victory in Harlem on Saturday, Dec. 17. The Indians trailed 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, but Poplar accounted for 20 points in the second period for a 28-21 advantage. Makena Hauge led the attack with seven points in the period. The Cowgirls increased their advantage to 33-15 at the half with the scoring of Megan Granbois and Hauge leading the attack.
