Red Hawks Capture Victory Over Lustre Girls

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks fought off Lustre, 35-34, in girls’ basketball action on Thursday, Dec. 18.

The Red Hawks held a 2520 lead entering the fourth quarter, but the visiting Lions tallied the first four points of the period on baskets by Hannah Brown and Samantha Neufeld.

Froid/Lake responded with two free throws by Isabelle Nordwick and a free toss by Joelle Davidson for a 28-24 advantage.

After a three-pointer by Lustre’s Sidney Klatt, Nordwick hit another free throw for a 29-27 margin with 2:58 left.

The Lions pulled even on a drive by Lauryn Holzrichter at the 2:40 mark, but Froid/ Lake regained the lead on a 14-footer by Jordyn Breuer.

Keira Stentoft connected on a pair of free throws to put the Red Hawks up 33-30 with 1:30 to play. After Holzrichter made two free throws, Froid/ Lake’s Atley Jensen hit a free throw for a 34-32 margin with 1:23 remaining.

Lustre tied the game on a drive by Lauren Fast with 36 seconds to play. The Red Hawks took the lead when Jensen made a free throw with 11 seconds left. The Lions missed their final shot with five seconds remaining.

Top scorers for Froid/Lake were Nordwick with 10 and Davidson with nine points. Also scoring were Jensen with eight, Stentoft with four, Avery Johnson with two and Breuer with two.

Leading Lustre were Neufeld with nine, Klatt with eight and Holzrichter with seven. Also scoring were Brown with six, Fast with two and Justice Byers with two.
