Bainville opened its track season with a meet in Watford City, N.D., on Tuesday, April 9. Samuel Butikofer cleared 6-2 for top honors in the high jump. Culbertson opened its track season at a small meet in Sidney on Tuesday, April 2. The Cowboys accounted for 80 points to earn third place at the six-team meet. The top two boys’ teams were Sidney with 206 and Fairview with 106 points. A Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks warden stopped a driver pulling a ski boat after he drove past an aquatic invasive species inspection station near Anaconda last week. The warden noticed some mussels on the boat and had the driver return to the inspection station where many more mussels were detected. A full decontamination was performed at the station and the boat was locked to the trailer.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will host a virtual meeting to gather input for the 2025-26 fishing regulations. The virtual meeting is scheduled for April 9, at 6 p.m. Fishing regulations are now under a process like hunting regulations, going through a comprehensive public review every two years. Landowners, watershed groups and others have until May 15 to apply for summer Future Fisheries Improvement Program grants. The goal of Fish, Wildlife and Parks’ FFIP is to restore rivers, streams and lakes to improve Montana’s wild fish habitat. Entities can receive funding for qualifying projects that benefit Montana’s wild fish. Each project is assessed by an independent review panel
