It’s interesting to page through the Montana High School Association’s records for basketball. There are many familiar names listed for area fans. The top scorer of all time for boys’ basketball is Reece Gliko of Highwood who finished with 2,763 points in 1990-93. Brody Grebe of Melstone ranks seconds with 2,540 from 2014-2019. Darby’s Kirk Walker is third with 2,430 in 1989-1992.

With the NCAA “March Madness” basketball tournament going on in full force, I think back of some of my favorite memories of my years watching those games. Paddlefish anglers planning to harvest a fish in the Upper Missouri River (between Fort Peck Dam and Fort Benton) need to apply for an Upper Missouri River paddlefish tag by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 22. For 2024, a total of 1,000 tags are available for the drawing. A 2024 fishing license is necessary before applying, and applications can be submitted online at fwp.mt.gov or at an FWP office.

Hunters have until April 1 to apply for deer and elk permits and nonresident combination licenses. Hunters can buy licenses and apply for permits on the FWP website; click on “Buy and Apply.” Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks offers several tools to help hunters navigate the application process. Froid/Lake’s Mason Dethman, Bainville’s Elsie Wilson and Bainville’s Hailey Berwick are among the District 2C basketball players who earned All-State honors this season.
