Officials Organize Interagency Emergency Exercise Held In Poplar


Roosevelt County Disaster and Emergency Services Coordinator Lindsay McNabb led an exercise of area fire, police and EMS personnel in Poplar June 13. Participating individuals and emergency services staff gathered across U.S. Highway 2 from Poplar High School to reenact an emergency event with volunteer actors playing injured people. Staff employed an Emergency Operation Plan with agencies collaborating

Albert Lee

Albert Lee


Albert Lee, 62, of Poplar died June 10, 2023, in Poplar. He was born in Lander, Wyo., the son of Mary Agnes Lee and Albert Lee Sr. He married Pauline, and his family grew instantly. He has always believed in hard work. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angie Marie Lee; sister Glennita Crespin; and brothers, Eldred Dennis, Gary Charles and Edward Dean. He is survived by his sons, Michael and David and Laren, Kristyn and Jessica Cota; sister, Claudia Ogden; numerous grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. His funeral was held Monday, June 19, at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment will follow at Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel had charge of the arrangements.

Rodney TurnToes Sr.


Rodney Bryce TurnToes Sr., 58, died Thursday, June 15. He was born in Poplar to Bernice Smoker-TurnToes and Louis Melvin TurnToes (Cheetah). He grew up in Frazer for most of his years and attended Frazer School. While attending school, he played basketball and baseball, ran cross-country and track. When he graduated high school, he met Anita White. Their children are Latoya TurnToes, Curtis Smoker, Sheldon Smoker and Shayna TurnToes. They later separated, but remained friends. Then, he met Ronna LaMere. They were together 30+ years. During those years, they married and had four children, Rodney TurnToes Jr., Ronni Jo LaMere, Isaiah TurnToes and Lane Turn-Toes. He was a firefighter for the Fort Peck Tribes and Rockyboy. He and his wife, Ronna, would cut wood for the elderly in Rocky Boy. He is survived by his brothers, DeWayne Bigleggins of Frazer, David Bigleggins of Frazer and Franklin TurnToes of Frazer; special sister, Adeline Rose White of Frazer; daughters, Latoya LaRoque of Frazer, Ronni Jo LaMere of RockyBoy, Shayna TurnToes of Wolf Point; sons, Curtis Smoker of Frazer, Sheldon Smoker of Frazer, Rodney TurnToes Jr. of Rocky Boy, Isaiah TurnToes of Rocky Boy, Lane TurnToes of Box Elder; stepson, Lionel White of Wolf Point; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold, Eugene, Dwight, Sherwin Bigleggins, Louis and Melvin; and sister, Babygirl BigLeggins. His funeral was held Tuesday, June 20, at 29 South Frazer (Westland) Road. Interment followed at Saint Joseph Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel had charge of the arrangements.
