Froid/Lake golfer Addison Elvsaas had been to the Class C state golf tournament two previously times, but what she accomplished in Sidney on Wednesday, May 21, was a great first experience for her.

The recent high school graduate shot a 95 on the second day of the tournament to finish in the top 15. The showing earned her All-State honors.

After having a disappointing 110 on the first day that put her out of the top 20, Froid’s valedictorian decided on a different approach for the final 18 holes.

“For the second day, I thought it’s just golf and went out to have fun,” Elvsaas said.

She explained that she usually adds up her scores throughout the day. This time, however, she didn’t figure her scores until prior to her final hole. To top things off in a great way, she then earned a par to end her round.

“I just went out and played,” she said. “I didn’t have any pressure on me.”

After figuring out her second day score, the threesport athlete thought she might have a chance to place in the top 15 with a final twoday score of 205. She then saw her name as 15th on the clubhouse’s big screen TV. “It was pretty cool,” she said.

One of the first things that she did was call her grandfather, Jerry Thompson, who provided tips to improve her golf game throughout the last couple of years.

“I’m really proud that I got better each year,” Elvsaas said.

It was an unique golf season for her, as she played in just a few tournaments because she was on spring trips for Business Professionals of America, FFA and music.

“It definitely has been a busy time,” she said.

A month of several activities and her high school career ended in the right way as she received a state tournament medal. Seeley-Swan’s Mia Nicholas was the meet’s medalist with a 164. Richey/Lambert’s Emma Biernaux placed second at 167. Savage’s Taylor Conradsen earned fifth with an 184.

Savage’s girls’ team won the state championship followed by Centerville and Manhattan Christian.

Scobey’s Cooper Axtman shot a 154 to win the individual title in the boys’ division.

Scobey’s boys claimed the team title followed by Manhattan Christian and Plentywood.

Culbertson’s Wyatt Martin finished with a score of 212 for 37th place.

Bainville’s Lane Giese tied for 44th place with a score of 222.
