Red Hawks Lose Semi-final Round Game

 

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks put up a good battle before losing their semi-final game against Plentywood, 63-54, at the District 2C boys’ basketball tournament on Thursday, Feb. 15.

The Red Hawks fell behind 17-9 in the first quarter and trailed 21-9 until a tough drive by Landon Kelm, a 14-footer by Nate Stentoft and a basket by Mason Dethman cut the difference to 21-15.

Froid/Lake accounted for the final eight points of the half on six points by Stentoft and a drive for Dethman for a 23-23 deadlock.

A basket by Dethman and a drive by Stentoft put the Red Hawks up 27-23 to open the third quarter, but the hot shooting of Landon Flickinger and scoring of Chance Klein led Plentywood to a 3732 advantage. The Wildcats held a 39-36 lead at the end of the third quarter and opened the fourth period with a drive by Noah Murray and a three-pointer by Flickinger.

A pair of three-pointers by Dethman closed the margin to four points. After the Wildcats tallied the next five points, Stentoft drove in for a hoop for a 51-44 game with 4:09 remaining. After Kelm scored at the 3:43 mark, the Wildcats ran off the next five points for a 58-46 lead with under two minutes to play.

Top scorers for the Red Hawks were Dethman with 26 and Stentoft with 19 points. Also scoring were Kelm with five and Daniel Forizs with four points.

Dethman had nine rebounds and three assists. Stentoft added three assists.

Leading Plentywood were Klein with 21 and Flickinger with 18 points. Adding eight points each were Ben Hagen, Murray and Carson Solberg.
