Cowgirls Drop Game Against MonDak

 

The Culbertson Cowgirls had their season come to an end against MonDak by a 45-34 final at the District 2C tournament on Friday, Feb. 16.

MonDak led by only a 17-14 half-time margin, but moved ahead by a 28-18 score during the third quarter.

After a basket by Culbertson’s Emma Berwick, the Thunder scored on free throws by Abby Lowes and Evelynn Lowes to take a 31-20 lead.

Berwick scored with 19 seconds left in the quarter, but free tosses by A. Lowes put the gap to 33-22 at the end of the period.

The Cowgirls struck for four straight points midway into the fourth quarter to close a 14-point deficit to 10 points. Destiny Thompson drove in for a basket to close the margin to 38-30 with three minutes left.

Two free throws by Ayden Ator kept the Cowgirls in contention at 41-34 with 1:02 left, but MonDak’s free-throw shooting put the contest away.

Top scorers for Culbertson were Thompson with 13 and Ator with nine points. Also scoring were Payton Labatte with four, Berwick with four, Ivy Colvin with two and Mariana Burciaga with two.

A. Lowes led MonDak with 18 points and seven rebounds. E. Lowes finished with three steals and four assists.
