Bainville Defeats Culbertson In District 2C Boys’ Battle
Bainville pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Culbertson, 57-43, during boys’ basketball action in Bainville on Friday, Jan. 12.
The Bulldogs held a 39-32 advantage at the end of the third quarter and Charles Butikofer opened the fourth quarter with a baseline shot.
After Culbertson’s Bridger Salvevold hit a free throw, the Bulldogs struck for the next eight points on a three-pointer by Isaiah Bjorge, a dunk by Alex Strickland off a steal by Rowan Wilson and a three-point play by Samuel Butikofer for a 49-33 margin with 4:02 left.
The Cowboys, however, didn’t go away. Two three-pointers by Dawson Bergum and a baseline shot by Donte Eagle Boy closed the gap to 49-41 with still 2:11 to play.
Bainville responded with the next eight points on a pair of three-pointers by S. Butikofer and two free throws by Cayden Boyd for a 57-41 advantage.
Top scorers for the Bulldogs were S. Butikofer with 23 and C. Butikofer with 13 points.
Also scoring for Bainville were Boyd with six, Reed Winn with four, Bjorge with three, Strickland with three, Trevor Robertus with three, Reese Harmon with two.
Reaching double figures for Culbertson were Salvevold with 14 and Bergum with 11 points.
Also scoring for the Cowboys were Nyreece Halvorson with seven, Plenny Williams with five, Eagle Boy with four and Mark Kirkaldie with two.
The scoring of S. Butikofer, Strickland and Boyd led the Bulldogs to a 10-4 lead early in the District 2C contest.
After Bergum went coast to coast for a basket, the Bulldogs scored the next five points on a drive by S. Butikofer and three points by C. Butikofer. Salvevold then accounted for a three-point play, but a three-pointer by Robertus put Bainville up 18-9 at the end of the opening quarter.
Bainville led by a 29-21 halftime margin.
Bainville will host MonDak on Friday, Jan. 19, and travel to Savage on Saturday, Jan. 20.
Culbertson plays at home against the Richey/Lambert Fusion on Thursday, Jan. 18, and head to Plentywood on Saturday, Jan. 20.
