Bainville Falls In Playoff Contest

 

Bainville’s football season came to an end with a 53-7 playoff loss against Chester/ Joplin/Inverness on Saturday, Nov. 1.

After Bainville’s first possession ended with a fourthdown incompletion, the Hawks took over on the Bulldog 23. CJI went on to score on a 14-yard dash by Levi Nelson with 7:28 left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs were able to pick up a first down on a completion from Rowan Wilson to Parker Berwick on their next drive, but a pass attempt on a fourth-and-nine pass went incomplete. The Hawks reached the end zone on a 37-yard run by Nelson with 3:41 left in the period. Nelson added the kick for a 14-0 lead. CJI increased the gap to 22-0 on a 34-yard run by Cooper Street with 2:09 remaining in the quarter. Nelson’s kick put the margin at 22-0.

After an interception by Street, quarterback Ryland St. John raced 23 yards for a touchdown. A pass on the conversion was good for a 29-0 advantage with 10 seconds left in the first quarter.

After an interception by Blake Johnson, the Hawks added a touchdown on a seven- yard dash by Nelson to increase the gap to 37-0. The last touchdown of the first half came on a six-yard run by St. Johns for a 45-0 margin The Hawks reached the end zone on their first drive of the third quarter on a 22yard run by Street.

Bainville got into scoring position late in the fourth quarter on passes from Wilson to Berwick, Evan Anderson and Kaiden Holmes. After a 17-yard throw from Wilson to Berwick put the ball at the two, the Bulldogs reached the end zone on a pass from Wilston to Anderson. Wilson threw to Holmes for the conversion.
