Cowgirls Edge Red Hawks For League Win

Culbertson’s volleyball squad came back to win an exciting five-set conference match over Froid/Lake on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The Cowgirls posted a 1625, 24-26, 25-18, 25-12, 15-7, league victory.

In the fifth and deciding set, Culbertson opened with an ace by Ayden Ator. The Red Hawks tied the score on a kill by Atley Jensen.

Culbertson struck back with three points on a spike by Payton Labatte and two blocks by Emma Berwick.

The Red Hawks battled back to 4-3 on a spike by Jensen and a kill by Isabelle Nordwick.

Culbertson earned an 8-4 advantage behind a block by Berwick and a back-row spike by Ator. A kill by Labatte increased the gap to 9-5.

The Red Hawks cut the margin to 9-7 on an ace by Laytyn Davidson, but Culbertson accounted for the last six points of the match. Leading the charge were a pair of aces by Berwick and a kill by Mariana Burciaga.

Leaders for the Cowgirls included Catherine Donaldson with 11 kills, 12 digs and four blocks. Berwick finished with six kills, four blocks and 12 digs.

Leandra Perkins scored sevens kills, 10 digs and an ace. Burciaga accounted for six kills and 25 digs.

Ator had four kills, 39 assists, two aces and 16 digs.

Labatte finished with four kills, 15 digs, four aces and three assists. Bella Petersen had four assists and six digs.
