Culbertson earned its first regular-season volleyball victory of the season when the Cowboys scored a 25-1, 25-6, 25-5, win in Frazer on Tuesday, Aug. 31.

After a kill by Destiny Thompson opened the non-conference match, the Cowgirls tallied 16 straight points on Koree Marchwick’s service including eight on aces. Thompson and Perla Burciaga had kills during the streak.

Ahead by a 17-1 margin, Culbertson ran off the last eight points including three on aces by Thompson and two on kills by Makena Hauge.

After an ace by Frazer’s Angel Nelligan pulled the Bearcubs to 6-2 in the second game, Culbertson tallied the next eight points. Two kills by Hauge and a tip by Marchwick highlighted the streak.

The Cowgirls went on to grab a 21-3 advantage on aces by Burciaga and the net play of Hauge.

Ahead 22-6, Culbertson struck for the final three points on a kill by Marchwick and two aces by Hauge.

An ace by Frazer’s Shakira Beston tied the score at 4-4 in the third set. Culbertson responded with a back-row kill by Hauge, two aces by Alicyn Ator and three spikes by Marchwick to gain a 10-4 advantage.

After a spike by Kenadee Kempton put the Cowgirls up 18-5, Culbertson accounted for the final six points on the serving of Marchwick and net play of Burciaga.
