This year’s Montana paddlefish season kicks off on May 1 with the opening of the Upper Missouri River section from Fort Benton downstream to Fort Peck Dam. Anglers must have a White Harvest Tag to participate in catching and keeping a paddlefish from this section of the river. These tags are issued through a lottery system. Poplar native Hunter Azure won the United Fight League bantamweight title on Saturday, April 27, in impressive fashion. Azure utilized a devastating right hand to knock out Amun Cosme in the second round. The Lustre Christian Lions scored 38 points to take fifth place in the team standings at the Glendive Shriners’ track meet on Friday, April 26. Johnslee Pierre finished first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.24 seconds. The sophomore placed third in the long jump with a mark of 20-7. Golfers from Wolf Point and Poplar were among the competitors at the Glasgow Invitational on Friday, April 26. Poplar took third in the boys’ division behind Conrad and Glasgow. Poplar's boys' golfers competed at the Scobey Invitational on Monday, April 29. Poplar's Landon Young shot an 86 for eighth place and Kaniel Ricker carded an 89 for 10th place. Wolf Point native Jewel Olson is enjoying success for Dickinson State University’s track program. Olson, a junior, finished second in the 400-meter dash at the NCAA Division II Northern State, S.D., meet with a time of 57.34 seconds. Her time at the meet was the best for a runner from a NAIA school. Olson was part of the Blue Hawks’ 4 x 400-meter relay team that captured the title

Poplar’s golfers placed fourth in the boys’ division during the meet in Shelby on Monday, April 22. Placing above Poplar’s boys were Conrad, Malta and Glasgow. Poplar’s Landon Young shot an 86 for seventh place. Broadwater’s Peyton Toney earned medalist honors with a 75. Quinn Sutherland of Poplar tied for 13th place with a 91. Lukas Young shot a 98 to tie for 23rd place.
