Stockgrowers Bring Local Beef To School Lunch Tables
Across the MonDak region, a meal served in a school cafeteria can carry a connection to the ranching families who help keep local communities strong.
The MonDak Area Stockgrowers Association is helping make that connection possible, providing $48,000 this year to local schools to purchase locally produced beef for their lunch programs. Schools in Culbertson, Savage, Lambert and Richey are among those receiving support.
For Culbertson, this year’s $3,250 contribution marks the third consecutive year the association has helped put local beef on students’ lunch plates.
“Culbertson has received money from the Stockgrowers for three consecutive years now — we are so grateful,” said Culbertson Superintendent of Schools Nicole Simonsen. “This year, we received $3,250!”
The nonprofit association represents and advocates for cattle ranchers across eastern Montana and western North Dakota. Through its school contributions, that work reaches into local cafeterias, helping schools purchase beef produced in the region their students call home.
In communities such as Savage, Lambert and Richey, agriculture is part of the landscape surrounding the schools. The donations offer a practical connection between that way of life and the meals served during the school day.
For school lunch programs, the funding provides help with purchasing local beef. For the region’s ranching community, it is an opportunity to contribute to the schools serving their neighbors, friends and families.
Simonsen’s appreciation reflects what that continued support means in Culbertson. Three consecutive years of contributions have brought a dependable community connection to the lunch program, with this year’s gift carrying that relationship forward.
From Culbertson to Savage, Lambert and Richey, the association’s contributions share a common purpose: helping feed local students while keeping local agriculture close to the table.
