RedHawks Shine Under The Lights In 59-20 Homecoming Victory
The Froid/Lake RedHawks made their homecoming night one to remember Saturday, Sept. 19, racing past the Broadus Hawks 59-20 under the lights at Medicine Lake.
The lights donated for the game, illuminated an action- packed night featuring long kicko_ returns, timely defensive plays and a homecoming celebration.
Broadus opened the scoring when Logan Capp powered into the end zone on a 1-yard run with 3:21 remaining in the first quarter. Capp kicked the conversion to give the Hawks an 8-0 lead.
Froid-Lake answered immediately. Aaron Orozco returned the ensuing kicko_ 55 yards for a touchdown, and Carson Aasheim added the successful kick to tie the game at 8-8.
Aasheim gave the Red-Hawks their first lead in the second quarter, completing a 51-yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown run. The conversion was unsuccessful, leaving Froid-Lake ahead 14-8.
Broadus tied the game at 14 when Justin Aye connected with Juraj Karlik for a 5-yard touchdown pass, but Orozco again provided an immediate response. He raced 78 yards on the ensuing kicko_ to put Froid-Lake back in front, 20-14. The RedHawks added another big play before halftime when Aasheim found Rylan Young for a 55-yard touchdown pass. Aasheim kicked the conversion to give Froid-Lake a 28-14 halftime advantage.
Homecoming royalty was announced during the break, with RedHawks football player Talen Larsen crowned king and volleyball player Isabelle Nordwick crowned queen.
Orozco kept the celebration rolling by returning the second-half kicko_ 75 yards for his third special-teams touchdown of the night. The score extended Froid/Lake’s lead to 34-14.
Broadus answered with a 75-yard touchdown run by Lucas Capp, but the Red-Hawks quickly regained control. Aasheim connected with Young for a 4-yard touchdown pass with 6:42 remaining in the third quarter, stretching the lead to 40-20.
Froid/Lake’s defense joined the scoring later in the quarter when Orozco intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, giving the Red-Hawks a 46-20 advantage.
After recovering a Broadus fumble at the 20-yard line in the fourth quarter, Froid/ Lake turned to Orozco again. He finished the possession with a 5-yard touchdown run for his fifth score of the game. Alex Spindler closed the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run. Aasheim then connected with Jake Nordlund on the conversion to complete the RedHawks’ 5920 homecoming victory.
Orozco delivered a standout performance, scoring on three kicko_ returns, an interception return and a rushing play. Aasheim added a rushing touchdown, threw two touchdown passes to Young and contributed on multiple conversions as the RedHawks celebrated a convincing win under the Medicine Lake lights.
