Bainville Knocks Off Ekalaka Team
The Bainville Bulldogs rolled to a straight set victory over Ekalaka during loser-out action at the Eastern C divisional volleyball tournament in Sidney on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Bainville earned a 25-17, 2519, 25-10, victory.
With the score at 15-12 in the first set, the Bulldogs were able to break away with the next five points on three kills by Hailey Berwick and a pair of kills by Addison Hansen.
Kills delivered by Jaylynn Bjorge and Hansen led Bainville to a 24-15 advantage.
After a kill by Samantha DeFord pulled Ekalaka to 2417, Bainville finished the set on a kill by Casey Myers.
The second set was deadlocked at 16-16 until Bainville struck for three straight points on two spikes by Berwick and an ace by Lila Butikofer. Kills by Myers and Chandi Johnson put Bainville up by a 22-18 margin. Johnson then accounted for blocks to increase the gap to 24-18.
With the score at 24-19, Bainville ended the second set on a back-row kill by Berwick.
The net play of Butikofer, Hansen and Bjorge led Bainville to a 12-5 lead in the third set.
A spike by Myers and a pair of kills by Bjorge produced a 15-7 advantage.
Ahead by a 17-10 margin, Bainville ran off the final eight points of the match with the serving of Myers and net play of Berwick leading the way.
