Bainville Scores Late To Earn Win In Jordan

The Bainville Bulldogs opened their season in thrilling fashion as a last-minute touchdown lifted them to a 47-46 six-man football victory at Jordan on Friday night.

The Bulldogs fell behind by a 33-27 margin on the last play of the third quarter. Bainville responded with a drive inside Jordan territory. A pass completion from Rowan Wilson to Parker Berwick was good for 16 yards. The Bulldogs went on to find the end zone on another pass from Wilson to Berwick for a 33-33 deadlock with 9:21 to play.

After an interception by Berwick, the Bulldogs cashed in to take the lead. Wilson passed the ball to Holden Salivar, who made a nice move at about the 10 and went in for the go-ahead touchdown. Wilson ran in the conversion for a 40-33 advantage.

Jordan pulled even when Layton Murnion changed fields on a great reverse run. After Bainville’s offense struggled with a couple of bad snaps, the Mustangs scored on a 10-yard dash by Murnion to grab a 46-40 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the contest conference.

Bainville quickly moved inside Jordan territory on a throw from Wilson to Salivar. On a fourth-down play, Wilson broke loose for a nineyard run to the 30.

After a reception by Berwick to the 18, the Bulldogs soon faced a third-down situation. Wilson, a senior, broke a tackle in the backfield and raced into the end zone with 12 seconds remaining.

Wilson connected with Kaiden Holmes on the critical conversion for 47-46 lead.

Jordan’s final drive ended when Berwick tackled a ball carrier at about the Bainville 25 as time expired.

The Bulldogs opened the game by scoring on their first possession when Wilson and Berwick connected on a 13yard touchdown pass.

After Jordan gained a 14-6 lead in the second quarter, the Bulldogs struck back on an eight-yard throw from Wilson to Berwick to cut the gap to 14-12.

Another touchdown reception by Berwick from Wilson resulted in a 19-14 lead for the Bulldogs at the half.

Jordan accounted for two early scores in the third quarter to earn a 27-18 advantage. A 27-yard scramble run by Wilson put the Bulldogs into the end zone. Austin Eveland kicked the conversion for a 27-27 deadlock.

The Bulldogs will travel to Custer on Friday, Sept. 5.
