Cowboys Claim District 2C Track Championship

The Culbertson Cowboys couldn’t be denied from winning the District 2C track championship in Lambert on Tuesday, May 6. The Cowboys tallied 178 points for top honors while Plentywood placed second with 151 points. Savage took third with 91 points.

Culbertson Coach Dave Solem was pleased with the efforts that lifted the Cowboys to their first district track title since 2014.

Leading the Cowboys to the championship were double winner Plenny Williams, Reese Moon, who was the second highest point scorer in the boys’ meet, and Brooks Solem, who was the third highest scorer. Plentywood’s Henry Kukowski won the Phil Robinson memorial award for being the top male scorer.

Williams, a sophomore, captured first place in the discus with a personal best of 145-10 and first in the javelin with a personal best of 159-11.

Moon, a senior, placed first in the 200-meter dash at 23.0 seconds, second in the 100-meter dash at 11.55, second in the long jump at 19-4 and second in the triple jump at 39-05.

Solem earned first in the 110-meter hurdles at 17.84 seconds, second in the 300-meter hurdles at 45.57 seconds, third in the high jump by clearing 5-8, fourth in the javelin at 152-6 and fifth in the discus at 102-7, The 400-meter relay team featuring Harrison Green, Ian Snyder, Bridger Salvevold and Moon finished first with a time of 46.05 seconds.

Also winning district titles for the Cowboys were Snyder by clearing 5-11 in the high jump, Gavin Deen with a mark of 41-01 in the shot put and Aden Drake with a time of 17.84 in the 45.33 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Salvevold placed third in the 100 at 11.69 seconds and fourth in the 400 at 56.16 seconds. Snyder took fourth in the 100 at 11.81 and fourth in the 200 at 24.16. Green was fifth in the 200 at 24.71, fifth in the 400 at 56.42 and sixth in the 100 at 12.13.

Cal Steppler finished second in the 3200 at 11:14.66, fourth in the 1600 at 5:10.17 and fifth in the 800 at 2:22.33.

The 1600-meter relay team of Drake, Steppler, Mauricio Mena and Green placed second with a time of 3:56.21.

Deen placed sixth in the javelin with a mark of 144-03. Deen took seventh and Drake was eighth in the high jump. Mena was eighth in the 400.

The Culbertson Cowgirls scored 26 points at the meet for seventh place in the team standings.

Emma Berwick placed third in the discus with a mark of 90-04 and fifth in the shot put at 29-08.

Rebekah Ellerkamp finished fourth in the 1600 at 6:32.20 and fourth in the 3200 at 14:53.74.

Bella Petersen had a solid meet as the sophomore placed third in the 400 at 1:07.35, seventh in the 200 at 29.42 and seventh in the long jump at 13-02.

Jade LoneBear placed sixth in the 3200 at 15:05.04 and eighth in the 1600 at 6:58.60.

The girls’ 1600-meter relay team featuring Ellerkamp, Stella Fox, Petersen and Serenity Wilbanks finished sixth with a time of 5:25.25.

Ayden Ator took sixth in the javelin at 84-07 and sixth in the 400 at 1:25.89. Wilbanks was seventh in the 400 at 1:26.57.
