The Froid/Lake Red Hawks kept their season alive with a 50-38 victory over Circle as Mason Dethman scored 28 points to lead the way at the Eastern C divisional tournament on Friday, March 1.

The game was deadlocked at 13-13 early in the second quarter before Dethman tallied six straight points for the Red Hawks.

After a free throw by Circle’s Conner Guldborg, the Red Hawks ended the half with free tosses from Daniel Forizs and Dethman for a 2114 advantage at intermission.

Froid/Lake opened the third quarter with a drive by Nate Stentoft and a steal and drive by Landon Kelm for a 25-14 lead. Kelm hit a three-pointer and Stentoft scored on a drive late in the quarter to extend the margin to 32-18.

The Red Hawks held a 3625 advantage at the end of the third quarter, but Circle battled back with the first nine points of the period on a three-pointer by Owen Beery along with baskets by Jace Curtiss, Guldborg and Xavier Nasner to close the margin to 36-34 with 5:12 left.

Froid/Lake responded with five straight points by Dethman including a three-point play with 3:11 remaining. A drive by Stentoft increased the gap to 43-34.

The Wildcats kept the heat on with hoops by Tripp Wahl and Nasner, but a three-pointer by Kelm gave the Red Hawks a 46-38 lead with only 1:26 left.

Dethman finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Red Hawks. Stentoft scored 11 and Kelm added eight. Also scoring were Joseph Robertson with two and Forizs with one point.

Top scorers for Circle were Donovan Gibbs with 11, Beery with nine and Nasner with seven points.
