The Culbertson Cowboys saw their basketball season come to an end as Scobey stopped the Cowboys, 60-25, at the Eastern C divisional tournament held in Glasgow.

After Culbertson’s Bridger Salvevold accounted for the game’s first two points, Scobey struck for the next 14 points including three-pointers by John Carney and Ty Leischer.

Culbertson fought back on a free throw by Gavin Deen and a 17-footer by Nyreece Halvorson. Four points by Carney put the Spartans up 18-5 at the end of the opening quarter.

The Cowboys had a promising start in the second quarter on baskets by Deen and Salvevold. Scobey then tallied the next eight points including six by Bram Handran.

Scobey led 32-15 at the half. A 12-footer by Mark Kirkaldie and a free throw by Salvevold closed the margin to 34-18, but the Spartans then scored the next 11 points. Scobey held a 45-20 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

Salvevold scored seven points for the Cowboys. Halvorson and Kirkaldie added six points each. Donte Eagle Boy and Deen each scored three points.

Top scorers for Scobey were Handran with 16, Carney with 14 and Kolten Machart with eight points.
