Bainville Girls Lose To North Country

 

Bainville’s girls’ basketball squad put up an admirable fight but lost to top-ranked North Country, 52-21, in the semi-final round on Friday, March 1.

The cold-shooting Bulldogs fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter. Bainville got its game going in the second period as a three-pointer by Miah Pippenger opened the quarter.

A baseline shot by Hailey Berwick and a three-pointer by Brecklyn Pippenger pulled the Bulldogs to 18-8.

After a pair of free throws by Teagan Erickson increased North Country’s lead to 2210. A drive by Bainville’s Elsie Wilson cut the gap to 22-12.

The Mavericks then ran off the next seven points. Two free throws by Bainville’s Addison Hansen put the halftime score at 29-14.

Down by a 32-16 margin, the Bulldogs struck for five straight points on a layup by M. Pippenger and a drive by Wilson for a 32-20 game. After North Country’s Berkley Hillman hit a three-pointer, Shelbi LaBrie made two free throws and Paige Wasson for a 42-20 margin at the end of the third quarter.

The Mavericks then outscored Bainville by a 10-1

margin in the fourth quarter.

M. Pippenger finished with five points. Scoring four points each were H. Berwick, Wilson, B. Pippenger and Hansen.

Wasson and Erickson led North Country with 14 points each.
