VanWhy Faces Charges After Crash

Corby Allen VanWhy is facing the charges of criminal endangerment, criminal mischief, aggravated driving under the influence (first offense), failure to give notice of accident and having no insurance in district court.

Criminal endangerment and criminal mischief are each felony charges.

According to court documents, a Roosevelt County deputy reported to a vehicle accident on the corner of 1st Street West and 1st Avenue West in Culbertson on April 1. While en route, the deputy was notified that the driver had left the accident scene.

A witness told the deputy that she saw traveling east on 1st Street West at a high rate of speed and then crashing into a building.

After the deputy observed a vehicle about 500 feet from the building, the driver jumped out of the vehicle and put his hands in the air.

The deputy saw a hole of approximately 6 feet by 6 feet in the side of the building.

VanWhy told the deputy that he was speeding and tried to turn but couldn’t stop and crashed into the building. When asked how much he had to drink, VanWhy said about half a bottle. A breath test and a blood draw were conducted.
