Cowboys Rally To Beat Ekalaka, 49-20

The Culbertson Cowboys were challenged early but came away with a 49-20 football victory in Ekalaka on Friday, Oct. 8.

“It was difficult in the beginning of the game,” Culbertson Coach Brian Manning said. “They were playing tough defense. Their triple option was a problem for us to defend.”

Down by six points early in the second quarter, the Cowboys recovered a fumble to help turn the momentum around. Culbertson scored a touchdown and added a conversion to take the lead.

The Cowboys led 29-20 at half-time and by a 35-20 score after three quarters of play.

Culbertson added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

James Kirkaldie and Kobe Nickoloff each had two receiving touchdowns for the Cowboys. Kyler Kempton and Payton Perkins accounted for rushing touchdowns.

Perkins completed all five of his passing attempts including four for touchdowns.

Nickoloff kicked four conversions in the contest.

Defensive leaders included Justice Bengochea with 13 tackles. Ethan Pirkle had an interception.

Culbertson will host Fairview for a first-place challenge game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16.
