Becker Takes Over As County Extension Agent Becker Takes Over As County Extension Agent

A familiar face is the new Extension agent for Roosevelt County.

Wendy Becker started her duties at the Extension office in Culbertson on Sept. 1. She has been the Fort Peck Extension agent for the past 11½ years.

“The position I was in was grantbased,” Becker said regarding the job change. “That grant process has gotten more competitive.”

Becker, who graduated from Culbertson High School, now lives south of Brockton. After high school, she earned her bachelors degree from Montana State University and masters degree from North Dakota State University.

As the new Roosevelt County Extension agent, she will handle the areas of agriculture, natural resources, 4-H youth development and community development.

“I was doing more non-traditional 4-H work and now will do more traditional things,” Becker said.

She said the county’s four 4-H clubs are finishing up loose ends after a successful fair. The new 4-H year begins on Oct. 1, with National 4-H Week on Oct. 3-9.

Becker will offer sausage- and jerky-making classes. She will continue providing gardening projects like she has in Poplar.

As far as agriculture, she noted a focus will be on farmers renewing pesticide points.

“A focus is on the aftermath of drought and if it persists,” Becker said.

She noted that she has been conducting forage nitrate testing.

If residents have any questions, she urged them to call her at 406787-5312.
