The Culbertson/Bainville cross country team opened its season with a solid showing at the Wolf Point Invitational on Friday, Aug. 27.

“I’m happy,” Coach Dave Solem said of the effort. “We came in where we thought we would. We don’t want to show all our cards right away.”

He expects all the runners to continue improving their times.

“Everybody competed to their potential,” Solem said.

Leading the girls were Emma Poser with a time of 24:40.86 for 10th place and Kayli Olson with a time of 24:51.31 for 11th place. Plentywood’s Annie Kaul finished first in 19:51.37.

Culbertson’s Autumn Bergum finished 16th in 26:03.33.

In the boys’ division, Drae Nelson placed 15th with a time of 21:12.04. Wolf Point’s Peyton Summers earned first in 17:57.26.

Nyreece Halvorson finished 17th in 21:54.93. Wyatt Snyder placed 19th in 22:04.14.

Dawson Bergum ran the course in 22:23.01 for 21st place.

Brockton’s Quannah First That Walks placed 34th in 26:17.16.

The Poplar Invitational is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 4.
