Cowboys Down Fairview, 48-14 For Big Win To Begin Season

Culbertson’s football team opened its season in impressive fashion as the Cowboys scored a 48-14 victory in Fairview on Friday, Aug. 27.

After a winless season in 2020, defeating the traditionally strong Warriors was certainly a reason to celebrate for Culbertson.

“It felt pretty good beating them,” Culbertson senior lineman Aiden Perkins said. “It’s going to be a good season.”

Culbertson’s offensive line opened up holes as the Cowboys rushed for 312 yards in the victory. Kyler Kempton led the way with 165 yards rushing while Kobe Nickoloff added 49 yards and Justice Bengochea gained 45 yards on the ground.

“Our plan was to run it until they got tired,” Perkins said.

The contest was tied at 8-8 until the Cowboys struck for 22 points in the third quarter.

Culbertson led 36-14 after three quarters of play.

Quarterback Payton Perkins threw for 95 yards including one touchdown. He ran for 39 yards and one touchdown.

Kempton finished with three touchdowns. Nickoloff and Bengochea also scored touchdowns.

“Defensively, it was a team effort,” assistant coach Mark Pederson said. “Everybody ran the scheme, we executed.’ The Cowboys will host Poplar at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4.
