Bainville Boys Defeat Fusion, 51-49

The Bainville Bulldogs scored a tough 51-49 home victory over league rival Richey/Lambert, 51-49, in boys’ basketball action on Friday, Feb. 6.

Ahead by a 26-21 halftime margin, the Bulldogs increased their lead to 30-21 on two baskets by Kaiden Holmes early in the third quarter.

Parker Berwick then added a pair of hoops for a 34-21 advantage. The Fusion’s first points of the third quarter came on a three-pointer by Tanner Goosen to cut the margin to 34-24 at the end of the period.

Two more baskets by Berwick helped Bainville gain a 40-30 lead with 5:49 remaining in the contest.

After a drive by Richey/ Lambert’s Beau Mullin, the Bulldogs struck for five straight points on a free throw by Holmes, a drive by Rowan Wilson and two free tosses by Berwick for a 45-32 margin with 2:52 left.

A run of nine straight points, including five points by Sy Carda and four points by Curtis Mullin, pulled the Fusion to 46-44 with 1:31 remaining.

Bainville responded with a drive by Wilson and a free throw by Evan Anderson, but the Fusion kept the heat on when Goosen fired in a three-pointer to cut the gap to 49-47 with 42 seconds left.

After a free throw by Wilson, the Fusion’s Cade Verschoot scored with just four seconds remaining. A free throw by Berwick was good for the 51-49 final.

Top scorers for the Bulldogs were Berwick with 27 and Wilson with 11 points. Holmes and Holden Salivar added six points each. Anderson had one point. Leading the Fusion were Gossen with 15, B. Mullin with eight and C. Mullin with eight.
