Bulldogs Find Scoring Sparks Against Mustangs
A freshman’s touchdown catch and a senior’s fourth-quarter score gave the hometown crowd reasons to cheer as the Bainville Bulldogs faced the Jordan Mustangs on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Bainville reached the end zone in both halves and blocked an extra-point kick during the game at Bainville High School. Jordan claimed the 66-15 victory, powered by Koby Saylor’s interception return and four rushing touchdowns.
One of Bainville’s highlights came in the second quarter. Trailing 26-0, the Bulldogs put together a 60yard drive that ended when Evan Anderson, a 5-foot-11 junior, found Sawyer Myers, a 5-foot-9 freshman, for a 15yard touchdown.
Holden Salivar, a 5-foot-10 senior, added the extra-point kick, cutting Jordan’s lead to 26-8.
The scoring connection gave Bainville a lift after a fast start by the Mustangs.
Jordan opened the game with a touchdown when Saylor, a 5-foot-9 senior, returned an interception to the end zone. Everett O’Connor, a 5-foot-10 junior, followed with a successful kick for an 8-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Saylor capped a 53-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown run, then broke free for a 70yard score. Jordan recovered an onside kick at Bainville’s 30-yard line, setting up a 13-yard touchdown run by Hayes Bollinger, a 5-foot-7 senior.
Bainville answered with the touchdown pass from Anderson to Myers, but Jordan scored once more before the break. AJ Murnion, a 6-foot-2 senior, reached the end zone on a 40-yard run as time expired, giving the Mustangs a 32-8 halftime lead.
Jordan added three touchdowns in the third quarter. Saylor finished a 51-yard drive with a 6-yard scoring run, and O’Connor’s kick made it 40-8.
Next, Murnion connected with O’Connor for a 37-yard touchdown pass. The Bulldogs blocked the extra-point kick, providing a bright spot for Bainville’s defense.
A 12-yard touchdown run by Saylor and a successful kick pushed Jordan’s lead to 54-8 entering the fourth.
The Mustangs added a 15yard scoring run by Bollinger and a touchdown reception by Brock Wilson, a 5-foot-8 junior, to bring their total to 66.
Bainville had one more answer.
Haedyn Wills, a 5-foot-10 senior, caught a 40-yard touchdown pass to put the Bulldogs back in the end zone. Salivar then found Parker Berwick, a 6-foot-3 junior, for the conversion, completing the scoring.
From Myers’ first-half touchdown catch to Wills’ late score, the Bulldogs delivered o_ensive highlights for their home crowd, with players from three grade levels contributing to Bainville’s scoring.
