Culbertson Defeats Poplar, 55-20
The Culbertson Cowboys delivered an explosive offensive performance Friday, Sept. 18, racing to a 36-point halftime lead before securing a 55-20 victory over the Poplar Warriors at the Poplar High School football field.
Brooks Solem powered the Cowboys’ o_ense from the opening quarter, breaking free for a 55-yard touchdown run. The successful extra-point kick gave Culbertson an early 7-0 advantage. The Cowboys took full control in the second quarter. Solem scored on a 25-yard run before connecting with Aden Drake for touchdown passes of 10 and 19 yards. Solem ran in a conversion following the pair’s second scoring connection.
Cord Snyder added a 19yard touchdown run before halftime, sending Culbertson into the break with a commanding 36-0 lead.
Snyder kept the Cowboys rolling in the third quarter, finding the end zone on a 9-yard run. The extra-point kick extended Culbertson’s advantage to 43-0.
Poplar scored three times early in the fourth quarter to narrow the margin to 43-20, but the Cowboys quickly regained control. Solem stopped the Indians’ momentum by connecting with Drake for their third touchdown of the night, a 19-yard pass that completed a 40-yard Culbertson drive. Although the extra-point attempt was unsuccessful, the score gave the Cowboys a 4920 advantage.
Gabe Annett closed the night in explosive fashion, racing 68 yards for Culbertson’s final touchdown and sealing the 55-20 road win.
Solem led the Cowboys with five total touchdowns, scoring twice on the ground and throwing three touchdown passes to Drake. Snyder contributed a pair of rushing touchdowns, while Annett added the final score.
Culbertson showcased its big-play ability throughout the night, scoring from both long range and inside the red zone to keep control of the game.
Under head coach Brian Manning, the Cowboys left Poplar with a decisive victory powered by a fast start, a balanced o_ensive attack and a strong response when the Indians threatened to rally.
