Repatriation Walk Set For July 31
The Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes Cultural Preservation Department, sta d by Tribal Historic Preservation O_cers, is hosting a Carlisle Boarding School Repatriation Awareness Walk July 31 to mark the return of the remains of Christine Redstone, Peter Howe and Richard Morgan to the reservation.
The walk will begin at 7 a.m. at Porcupine Creek in Nashua at the western edge of the Fort Peck Reservation. It is schedule to end at Big Muddy Creek, east of Brockton.
According to a press release from the Department, all are welcome to join the nonstop walk and caravan. A flat bed be available to hold small children and elders.
THPO are o_cially designated by Tribal authorities to direct a program approved by the National Park Service and the THPO must have assumed some or all of the functions of State Historic Preservation O_cers on Tribal lands.
A repatriation homecoming ceremony is planned for the second week in September.
