Froid Council Members Discuss Fiber Project, Dogs

The Froid Town Council held its regular meeting April 13. Council member Gregg Labatte was absent. Visitors were recognized.

The office of the justice of the peace in Culbertson has provided Froid with $1,675 in fines and fees owed the town. A glitch in the court’s computer system was discovered. The Town of Bainville has also received payments due to the glitch.

Mayor Sheri Crain and public works director Alan Engelke said there has been an uptick in complaints about dogs in town. Crain said a public notice about leash regulations should be sent to area residents. Crain also said the number of unregistered and unlicensed vehicles in town has become a problem.

Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Deputy Russ Corbell was on hand to discuss the monthly report, which included six calls for service, mostly rural.

Engelke reported working on routine maintenance projects like broken water meters. American Rescue Plan Act funded sewer line replacement work is underway and is expected to be completed soon.

Clerk LeAnn Johnson filed for an extension on the town’s financial review, with the objective of widening the window for bids for auditing services.

David Stentoft from Nemont was present to discuss the fiber optic cable project. Nemont is planning to replace old copper wires with fiber optic technology. He said new lines would largely follow the old copper. A variety of new service options and prices will be available for town residents. Stentoft said they were aiming for an August start date. No contractor has been named for the project.

The next meeting is set for May 11.
