Hansen Makes Positive Mark At Bainville School
Senior Profile
Bainville High School senior Addison Hansen is involved in so many activities at the school that it might give others a headache to simply keep track of her schedule.
Along with being a three-sport athlete, Hansen is also in Business Professionals of America, FFA, National Honor Society, student council and journalism.
She is thankful that she attends a small school that allows her so many opportunities.
“I’m always grateful for that,” Hansen said. “I do complain at times about being so busy, but I wouldn’t have had any other way.”
She along with other Bainville students qualified for the national BPA conference for the second straight year. The Bulldogs have qualified for parliamentary procedure team and small business management team.
“I’m really excited,” Hansen said of attending nationals, which is scheduled for May in Nashville, Tenn.
Her goal at the national event is for Bainville’s teams to be competitive and maybe advancing to finals.
Her best events in FFA are veterinary science and parliamentary procedures. Both teams have won several district titles during her time in high school.
Hansen explains that FFA has improved her public speaking and networking skills. “And I’ve been able to build friendships with people,” she said. “I’ve enjoyed being around people that I like whether its sports or activities.”
As far as journalism, Hansen is the lead editor for Bainville’s school newspaper. She reviews articles before the paper goes to press. Hansen explains that each student gets assigned certain articles. She likes writing sports stories the most.
Her individual sports accomplishments have included placing fifth at the state track meet in the discus and earning All-Conference second team honors in basketball.
Hansen’s favorite sport is track because it consists of individual events, but there is also a team element.
“At the same time, you can focus on yourself,” Hansen said about track.
Her goals for the upcoming season are to place at state in the discus again and qualify for state in the shot put.
In volleyball and basketball, Hansen has helped the Bulldogs achieve a great amount of success at the district, conference and divisional levels during her career. She lists highlights as being undefeated going into the divisional basketball tournament last year and being ranked in state polls.
“I think we built up a culture for all our sports programs,” Hansen said. “It’s awesome to look back on.”
Another highlight for Hansen was being one of four winners of the Big Sky State Games Character Counts Scholarships in the entire state. The scholarships recognizes the importance of sportsmanship and character in athletics.
In the classroom, her favorite subject is English because she enjoys grammar and reading. Her favorite teacher is Sarah Morales. “She’s always really understanding with my schedule,” Hansen said.
After high school, she plans to attend Montana State University in Bozeman to study psychology. Hansen wants to help individuals who are struggling with mental health or addictions.
She thanks community members for their support throughout her life and the school’s activities.
“They show up and support us with our successes and also our downfalls,” Hansen said.
