Eric Chilson has reached high achievements in speech and drama during his high school days at Culbertson High School. This is Chilson’s fourth year with the school’s speech and drama program. He competed in humorous acting as a freshman and original oratory as a sophomore.

Chilson is participating in informative speaking for the second straight year.

“You can write your own speech,” Chilson said of why he likes the informative speaking category the best. “Your topic can be anything.”

His topic this year is infantry tactics of the modern era.

“I thought it was interesting,” Chilson said of the topic.

The senior’s presentation includes educational boards and photographs. He said it took him about a month to prepare the materials.

So far this season, Chilson has placed third and fourth at events. His goal is to qualify for the state competition.

Chilson is also involved in football where he played end/linebacker and was also a special teams’ member for the Cowboys.

His favorite class is U.S. government and his favorite teacher is Dave Solem.

“He doesn’t just go by the book, he teaches you the subject,” Chilson said of why he likes Solem.

After high school, Chilson plans to attend basic training in Georgia. He will then study at a technical college in Great Falls.

He plans to become a plumber, a position where there’s a great need. “That’s what everybody’s been saying,” Chilson said about the need for plumbers.
