William R. Woods, age 88, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, in Chester. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Chester Community United Methodist Church (510 Monroe Ave., Chester, Mont.), followed by a reception for friends and family. Bill will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Havre with a committal service at 2:30 p.m. Please visit Bill’s online

Red Hawks Finish Second In Six-Man Football Ranks

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks accomplished a remarkable football season in 2023. After winning the conference championship, the Red Hawks accounted for two comeback playoff victories on their way to the state title game. Froid/Lake’s string of victories ended when the Red Hawks’ explosive offensive attack couldn’t quite score enough points in a 63-48 loss against Centerville in the six-man state

Players Voted All-Conference

Four players from conference champion Froid/Lake Red Hawks and three players from Bainville were selected to the All-Conference football squad this season. Voted to the team by league coaches for the Red Hawks were senior Mason Dethman, senior Nate Stentoft, senior Daniel Forizs and senior Cian Logan. Dethman and Stentoft were each also All-Conference selections last year. Voted All-Conference

Perkins Selected Champion Of Character

Culbertson native Aiden Perkins has been honored for his football accomplishment at Montana State University- Northern. Perkins, a sophomore, was selected as MSU-Northern’s recipient of the Champion of Character award. He is a defensive lineman for the Northern Lights. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Champions of Character program is to change the culture of sport.

Bainville Players Earn Academic All-State

The Bainville High School football team averaged a 3.28 grade point average during the first quarter. The varsity players averaged a 3.54 grade point average. Bainville’s volleyball team scored a 3.66 grade point average. The varsity GPA average was 3.58. Earning Academic All-State honors in football were Logan Josephson, Reed Winn, Trevor Robertus, Rowan Wilson and Kaiden Holmes.

A proposed amendment for an item on the Dec. 14 Fish and Wildlife Commission meeting agenda is available for public review
