After trailing by 16 points early in the third quarter, the Froid/Lake Red Hawks lost a tough 38-34 opening-round game against Savage in the first round of the girls’ tournament on Wednesday. Down by a 29-13 margin during the first couple minutes of the second half, the Red Hawks struck for seven straight points on two baskets by Mara Salvevold and a three-pointer by Isabelle Nordwick.

A strong second quarter was a highlight for Froid/ Lake’s girls’ basketball squad as the Red Hawks defeated Brockton, 59-42, during loser- out play at the District 2C tournament on Friday, Feb. 16. The Red Hawks fell behind 14-9 in the first quarter but ran off 23 points in the second period for a 32-21 advantage. Froid/Lake then struck for 16 points in the third quarter for a 48-33 margin.

Bainville earned two victories over Brockton to end the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 10. In the girls’ game, Bainville posted a 58-22 victory to clinch the top seed for the district tournament.
