Betty Schwarzrock, 83, of Poplar died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point. She was born to Pearl and William Ryttling on May 17, 1938. She attended school in Twin Falls, Idaho. She met Lyle Schwarzrock while he was stationed at the Air Force Base in Mountain Home, Idaho. She liked to go and help Lyle while he helped a farmer hay. She drove the tractor while he stacked the hay. They liked to go dancing on the weekends.

Eileen Marie Atwood

Eileen Marie Atwood


Eileen Marie Atwood, 84, died Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Logan Health Hospital in Kalispell. She was born in Kenmare, N.D., the first daughter to Adolph and Eleanor Anderson. She grew up on the family farm, near Coulee, N.D. She attended and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1955. After high school, she attended State Teachers School in Minot, N.D., receiving her first-grade elementary teaching certificate in 1956. She taught school for several years. She met Eugene Atwood and they married on Sept. 7, 1958. To this union, four children were born, Dwaine, Mitchell, Ross and Kim. After living in several different states and overseas in the Canary Islands, they moved to Wolf Point in 1971, where she continued to reside. She helped manage the Westland Gas Station in Wolf Point and worked at the J.C. Penny store. She later went to work at the Buttrey’s Food Store (later changed to Albertsons). She worked there for 35 years before retiring in 2009. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She loved to garden, tend to flowers and took great pride in her yard. During the warm months, she was always outside tending to these things. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was always her first priority. Robert Shumway

Robert Ellsworth Shumway, 75, of Wolf Point died Friday, Feb. 11, 2022. He was born in Wolf Point on Oct. 6, 1946, to parents George and Pearl Shumway. He attended Wolf Point High school and then joined the workforce immediately after. He spent the majority of his adult life working with the Wolf Point School System as a janitor where he was able to keep an eye on his children and their many activities. He came from a large family and was happy to start his own. From a previous marriage came his first born, a son, Justin Shumway. Late, he met Linda Lien and they married June 28, 1980. Soon after, they started their family. They had four children together: Sheridan, Christina, Angela and Samuel. He loved his children and worked hard to provide for them, but he lived for his grandchildren. He was the best grandpa anyone could have and made sure to spoil them especially with treats, always saying, “These kids need their ice cream.” He also taught them important life lessons, like counting, by playing blackjack and poker with them. He was known as “grandpa with the trains” by some of his grandchildren

Theresa Marie Anderson, 75, of Boise, Idaho, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at her home. She was born on Aug. 1, 1946, in Wolf Point. She was one of six sisters and one brother of the local Eggebrecht clan. She attended Catholic school through the eighth grade then attended Wolf Point High to complete her high school degree. Following high school, she attended Billings Business School in Billings. After completing her course work studies in Billings, she returned to Wolf Point and was employed within the business office of the local Wolf Point hospital. She met her husband-to-be, John Anderson, in Wolf Point during one of his visits to the area. At the time, he was enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and stationed in Glasgow. Following completion of his obligation to the Air Force, they were married on Jan. 9, 1969, in Glendive. In September 1969, they, along with their newborn son, Robert, moved from Wolf Point to Moscow, Idaho, where John continued and completed his education at the University of Idaho. While living in Moscow, their second son, Darren, was born.

Cordelia Ackerman, 67, died Feb. 11, 2022. She was born in Poplar on Feb. 6, 1955, to Wilbert T. and Isabelle (Runs Through) Ackerman. She lived in Frazer all her life. She had two sons, Aaron Ackerman and Kevin Ackerman. She enjoyed listening to her music, traveling, shopping, playing games on her phone, visiting her sister Wanda, watching television and watching her granddaughters play and sing. She loved when her friends would call her and talk for hours. Her favorite football team was the Raiders. She is survived by her children, Aaron Ackerman and Kevin Ackerman; a daughter she took as her own, Marquita Big Leggins; four grandchildren; and siblings, Floyd

Trudy Elaine Menz, 42, of Salt Lake City, Utah, formerly of Fort Kipp, died Feb. 8, 2022, in Salt Lake City. She was born Aug. 13, 1979, in Poplar to Gale Myron Menz and Bonnie Mae Russell-Menz. She was the middle child of nine brothers and sisters. She grew up on the farm in Fort Kipp and attended school in Culbertson where she participated in track and basketball. She was a baptized/member at Red Eagle Memorial Church where she attended Bible school and assisted with all church events. She was raised by her grandparents, Lida and Gale Menz, and she enjoyed being in the kitchen. Lida was her biggest supporter and they would cruise all over together. She had the biggest heart and an infectious smile and laugh. She was always joking, teasing her friends, co-workers and family. She was always there to lend a hand or help someone in need, often helping babysit many children. She had two children, Emerlee Lynn Menz and Jason Lee Trinder. Donald Eugene Iceman Jr., 61, died Jan. 30, 2022, at Poplar Hospital. He was born on April 14, 1960, in Red Lake, Minn., to Donald Iceman Sr. and Frances Youpee Iceman. He attended school in Red Lake. Later, he moved to Poplar, where he made his home until his death. He met Evelyn Connie Bear. Together, they had a son, Donald E. Iceman III, aka “Sonny Boy,” in 1985. He met Carman Eagle Boy a few years later and, together, they have a son, Choaya “CJ” Eagle Boy, born in 1987. His sons were introduced to each other a little later in life, but both sons have become close. He had many jobs. He enjoyed working at A& S Industries. He was proud to represent the Fort Peck firefighting crew and was a firefighter for many years, where he became squad boss. He received his certificate as a sawyer. He also worked as a seismographer. He loved fixing and thinking. He was the real “MacGyver” and quite the handyman. He listened to all kinds of music, including pow-wow and round dance music. He loved and enjoyed caring for his mother, nephews, sons and grandchildren, especially his pride and joy, Riley Loegering Jr. One of the proudest times of his life was when his son went to state in basketball as a Brockton Warrior three times in a row and returned

Georgia Mae Hanson, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minn. In true Georgia fashion, she left this world exactly as she intended: gracefully, tranquilly and surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Feb. 22, 1940, to George and Cecelia Koberoski. She attended Mankato State University, where she met Lowell Hanson, while they were both playing in the band. They were married in 1960 and spent a lifetime making music together. Their work as music educators brought them to Montana, where they grew their family and were blessed with three daughters. In 1973, they moved to Montevideo, Minn., where they would spend the next four decades raising their family and building a musical empire. Marlin Namyniuk, 61, of Hebron, N.D., passed away on Jan. 28, 2022, after a brief illness. Marlin was born on Oct. 13, 1960, to Elko and Martha (Malkowski) Namyniuk and was the youngest of their five children. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Belfield High School in 1978. He played basketball, football and was a track star for the Belfield Bantams. He played college football for Dickinson State College and studied auto-body repair at Bismarck Junior College. He played in the pool league for Grassy Butte. Then the oilfield called, and he worked his way up, eventually starting MGN Oil Field Consulting Services, LLC. Marlin finally retired in 2013. He had a lot of oilfield brothers and friends that he still kept in touch with. Marlin was married to Camille Driver and later divorced. Then, he met Julie Todd of Frazer in 1994. She was his partner, his best friend and the love of his life, and they were married on Aug. 28, 1999. They lived on the family farm until purchasing their own farm northwest of Hebron, where they found many good neighbors and friends. Marlin loved to joke and tease with family and friends.
