After Brockton defeated Savage, 72-43, in the District 2C boys’ basketball game on Saturday, several players immediately jumped on top of Coach John Nygard to celebrate. The Warriors understood what the title meant not only for them, but especially to their coach and, for that matter, the entire community of Brockton. It was a hard-fought battle, but when a final three-point attempt missed its mark, the Brockton Warriors qualified for the divisional tournament with a 37-35 win over Mon-Dak in the third-place game of the District 2C tourney on Saturday afternoon. Bainville Drops Opening Game Against MonDak


The Bainville Bulldogs struggled with cold shooting and lost to MonDak, 51-37, in the first round of the District 2C boys’ basketball tournament. The Thunder jumped out to a 17-3 lead in the first quarter and held a 33-14 half-time advantage. MonDak held as large as a 22-point lead in the second quarter. Parker Berwick led Bainville with 13 points. Kaiden Holmes added seven points.

Lustre Boys Defeat Frazer At 3C Tournament


Lustre Christian’s boys’ basketball squad posted an 86-28 victory over Frazer in loser-out action at the District 3C tournament on Friday. The Lions earned a 29-3 lead in the first quarter en route to the tournament win. After a 2-2 deadlock, the Lions ran off 21 straight points. Two baskets by Prestyn Klatt started the streak.
