Roy Neumiller

Roy Sheldon Neumiller, 81, of Malta passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, at 5:20 a.m. after a courageous battle with cancer.

Roy was born July 7, 1944, in Wolf Point to Bill and Nora Neumiller.

On Oct. 12, 1963, he married Joy Schipman in Bowman, N.D. At the time of his death, they had been married 62 years.

In his early teens, he and his older brother taught themselves how to play guitar. In these teen years, they were playing in nightclubs and even on the FayCrush Show on TV. At that time, no one sang, so Roy began to sing and was quite good at it. Later, his son joined the band. Roy played his music right up until May of 2025.

His occupation most of his life was some type of oil field work. His first rig job he was too young to even be there. By the time his age was discovered, he was old enough. He worked the derricks and he spent many years on oil rigs and with seismograph companies. He had something to do with the biggest share of all the gas wells in Phillips County. This was by way of being a roughneck, driller, oil management or company hand. He spent many hours with the work over rigs. He retired the day he turned 62 and never looked back.

Roy and Joy spent many days fishing at the cabin at Nelson. His love of fishing was passed down to his family, especially his grandkids.
