The Friends of the Roosevelt County Library are seeking new members to assist with fundraising and advocacy e_orts. The Department of Commerce announced last week it awarded grants to seven projects to increase tourism in rural communities throughout the state. The program stems from 2023 legislation brought by Sen. Daniel Zolnikov, a Billings Republican. Each project is receiving $1.25 million to start and the projects will be eligible for up to $2.75 million over the duration of the grant, which is funded

Wolf Point’s junior high students fared well at the Academic Olympics competition in Glasgow on Wednesday, April 15. Eighth-grade student Kellen Moran placed first out of 75 students on the English test and sixth on the science test. Seventh-grade student Kylan Egnacheski earned seventh in the science test.

A Poplar man accused of sending obscene pictures and videos to a minor admitted to charges last week, Acting U.S. Attorney Tim Racicot said. The defendant, Benjamin George Walkingeagle, Sr., 40, pleaded guilty to one count of transfer of obscene material to a minor. Walkingeagle faces 10 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release. Chief U.S. District Judge

Two changes of plea were among the hearings in Roosevelt County District Court in front of District Judge Benjamin Fosland on Wednesday, April 15. Xavier Jamal Christian Alvarado changed his plea to guilty for the offense of failure to register as a sexual or violent offender. He admitted that he was registered as a violent offender in Sheridan County and then resided in Roosevelt County

The Montana Historical Society announced that Wolf Point High School junior Kailayla Villaluz won a women’s history special award for the senior division. The recognition is part of the program. Villaluz created an individual documentary regarding the forced sterilization of indigenous women. She explained the topic wasn’t something she learned in school, but she found the subject

The Title VI Parent Committee for Wolf Point Schools held its year-end meeting at the high school on Thursday, April 16. The budget for the upcoming year will be $145,288. Items that those funds will cover include salaries and benefits for district home school coordinators and high school Native American Studies teacher.
