Change Of Pleas Hearings Heard In Court

Two changes of plea were among the hearings in Roosevelt County District Court in front of District Judge Benjamin Fosland on Wednesday, April 15.

Xavier Jamal Christian Alvarado changed his plea to guilty for the offense of failure to register as a sexual or violent offender.

He admitted that he was registered as a violent offender in Sheridan County and then resided in Roosevelt County for more than three business days without registering in that county.

A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered by Fosland.

A request was made to lower Alvarado’s bond from $10,000. If released, Alvarado said he would live with his parents in Plentywood and that he has a good chance for employment in that community.

Fosland reduced the bond to $2,500. He noted that the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office has seized all of Alvarado’s firearms.

John Frank Figueroa Jr. changed his plea from guilty to no contest for the misdemeanor offense of theft.

County attorney Thomas Bleicher said if a trial was held, he would prove that Figueroa removed two bags on Aug. 18, 2025, from the Roosevelt Medical Center in Culbertson without permission. Value of the items was less than $1,500.

A joint agreement was for Figueroa to be sentenced for 30 days in the county jail with all the time suspended and to be fined $300. Fosland ruled that Figueroa’s sentence should be 30 days all suspended, but the fine was reduced to $150.

Cody James Corne made not guilty pleas to three felony counts. The charges were criminal possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute meth, criminal possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute fentanyl and tampering or fabricating physical evidence.

An omnibus hearing was scheduled for June 10. “This case involves a lot of discovery,” Bleicher said of why the omnibus hearing won’t be held until June.

During a petition to revoke hearing, Charissa Josette Boast denied the violation of being in possession of alcohol or illegal drugs while on probation. In late January, Boast received a five-year suspended sentence for possession of dangerous drugs.

An adjudication hearing was scheduled for June 10.
