Roosevelt County 4-H Holds Achievement Day Roosevelt County 4-H Holds Achievement Day

The 2025 Roosevelt County 4-H Achievement Day was held Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Greet The Dawn building on the Fort Peck Community College campus in Poplar. The Fort Peck 4-H Club hosted the event, welcoming over 60 4-H members, parents and guests. A variety of snacks were served and the program ended with some fun games like “Sweep the Teepee” and a rowdy set of “Musical Chairs”.

Maia McGowan of the Fort Peck 4-H Club was the emcee, welcoming everyone to the program; and she along with her club members led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge. Maia reminded everyone that 4-H is a family-oriented program proven to build life-long skills, working on projects of their choice, completing records, attending and participating in monthly meetings, doing demonstrations and public speaking, participating in community service and giving back.

To start the program off, the Cloverbuds were recognized for their participation. Lok Kierstead, Centennial Clovers 4-H Club, Kora McGowan, Fort Peck 4-H Club, and Cy and Edie Clarke, Payton Helms, Lachlan Holbrook, Cyral Powell and Tawnie Traeger, Tumbleweed 4-H Club members were all recognized.

Next, each club was recognized with a short history and the members’ projects. There are four clubs in the county with Centennial Clovers 4-H Club, Tumbleweed, Up-NAtom and Fort Peck 4-H Clubs.

Special awards recognized Tenley Berwick and Elsie Wilson with the citizenship award, Tally and Tenley Berwick received the achievement award and Payton Labatte with the leadership award.

Livestock Carcass Awards came next and even though 22 market steers were evaluated no one received a Steer of Merit Award. Ranking on the local level, however, placed Hailey Berwick (Bainville FFA) first; Payton Labatte (Culbertson FFA) second; Jaylynn Bjorge (Bainville FFA) third; Cody Olson (Froid FFA) fourth; and Lilly Johnson (Froid FFA) fifth. Twenty-eight market hogs were evaluated and 10 met the Symbol of Excellence award in the following order respectively: Felixe Becker (Culbertson FFA), Ava Poser, Blanca Portra, and Tacey Traeger (Tumbleweed 4-H), Keira Stentoft (Froid FFA), Jaxon Flinn (Tumbleweed 4-H), Rowan Wilson (Bainville FFA), Joslynn Johnson (Up-N-Atom 4-H), Kashtyn Flinn (Tumbleweed 4-H) and Jodi Albus (Bainville FFA). Fourteen market lambs were evaluated and five met the Certified Lamb award: Payton Labatte and Kalia Featherston (Culbertson FFA), Emmalyn Anderson (Bainville FFA), Joslynn Johnson and Easton Miller (Up-N-Atom 4-H). Five meat goats were evaluated and two met the Carcass of Merit award: Keira Stentoft (Froid FFA) and Tenley Berwick (Centennial Clovers 4-H). The third-fifth placers were Tally Berwick, Kalia Featherston and Payton Labatte.

Rate of Gain Awards were awarded to Tally Berwick in beef, Copeland Anderson in swine, Payton Labatte in goat and Eason Miller in sheep.

The Silver Spur horse awards were given to senior member Grand-Emilynn Priddy-Powell, Junior Grand-Boone VandenBos, Junior Reserve-Eleanor Iversen, Beginning Grand-Wiley VandenBos and Beginning Reserve-Tacey Traeger.

Outstanding Secretary award went to Emmilyn Priddy-Powell of the Tumbleweed 4-H Club.

The program concluded with the council recognizing members and leaders for their years of service in 4-H. Five-year members are Jaylynn Bjorge, Jacob Nordlund, Maia McGowan, Kashtyn Flinn, Eleanor Iversen, Sophie Portra, Blanca Portra, Tannen Traeger, Chase Parenteau and Brooke Wineinger. Fiveyear leaders are Karli McGowan and Kyla Traeger. Seven-year member is Axel Clarke, and leaders are Chelsie and Stephen Flinn. Ten-year leaders are Dana and Tana Berwick and Kody and Bridgette Featherston.
