Froid Council To Hold Election

The Froid Town Council held an informal meeting at the Town Hall on Monday, Oct. 20. The council was short on attendance and a quorum wasn’t met. No motions were proposed or passed.
Council member Tyler Harris met with Mayor Sheri Crain, clerk LeAnn Johnson and public works director Alan Engelke, as well as guest Penny Ryder.
Ryder is among four candidates contesting two open council seats in a general election. She is facing incumbents Tyler Harris and Laurie Young and Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office deputy Russ Corbell. The election is being conducted entirely by mail and ballots have already begun arriving.
The minutes from the September meeting were read aloud.
Attendees discussed possible projects for utilizing remaining American Rescue Plan Act funds of approximately $100,000 and read the sheriff’s report, which included a total of eight calls for service and one citation for burning leaves in town.
Engelke reported turning water service on and off at various locations in preparation for winter. He also reported replacing curb stops. The water tower was inspected by Maguire Iron and is in good shape.
The next regular meeting is set for Nov. 10.
