Senior Profile
Culbertson High School senior Ivy Colvin says that one benefit of going to a smaller school is the ability to be a part of many activities.
“We have the opportunity to be involved in more than one thing. I can be in all sort of activities,” Colvin said.
Colvin, who is the senior class secretary/treasurer, is active in Business Professionals of America, FFA, National Honor Society, Explore America, band, track and basketball.
Her achievements in BPA have included placing fourth at the state conference in Linux operating systems, which qualified her for the national conference held in Orlando, Fla. “That was pretty fun,” Colvin said of the national experience. She also placed ninth in state for extemporaneous speech.
Her involvement in FFA includes ag sales, farm agri-business management, extemporaneous speech and parliamentary procedures.
She has been involved in BPA throughout her high school career and FFA since her sophomore year.
“I like them about evenly,” Colvin said of the programs. She explained both teach that the leadership development learned benefits students in their futures.
Colvin, who is on track to be the class valedictorian, is the vice president for National Honor Society.
She has played high school basketball since the eighth grade and calls it her favorite sport.
“I’m looking forward to basketball season this year,” she said.
She adds that she enjoyed playing shortstop for Culbertson’s softball team this past summer. “It’s my fun sport,” Colvin said. The squad placed third at the season-ending tournament.
Colvin has earned the scores of “1” for the last three years while playing her trombone at the state music festival. She has also played piano for 12 years.
Her favorite class is English with her favorite teacher Shelly Panasuk.
After high school, Colvin plans to major in biomedical engineering at either Montana State University in Bozeman or the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
