Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Report

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office responded to 115 calls during Sept. 29-Oct. 6.

The calls included the following: Sept. 29

Deputies responded to Fort Kipp for a report of custodial interference. The incident dealt with a biological mother taking a child, but the grandmother has custody rights. The child was returned. The mother was cited into tribal court for custodial interference.

Sept. 30

Deputies and the Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice responded to the Poplar city limits for a report of aggravated assault. A male was stabbed and transported to the hospital. Arrested by FPTDLJ were an adult male, a juvenile male and a juvenile female.

Oct. 1

Deputies assisted FPTDLJ in Poplar regarding a report of an individual swinging a machete near the senior citizen center. When the male was located, he attempted to run away. The machete was then taken from him.

Oct. 3

Deputies assisted the Montana Highway Patrol and FPTDLJ regarding a report of a male with a gun near the courthouse. The report was that he parked a four-wheeler in front of the courthouse and then walked away. When the individual was located, he explained that the four-wheeler had broken down and he was hunting earlier that day.

Deputies picked up Wacey Savior, 38, from the tribal jail as part of the extradition process of taking Savior to North Dakota.

Oct. 4

Deputies, Montana Highway Patrol and FPTDLJ responded to a vehicle crash on BIA Route 1 west of Wolf Point. A SUV was resting upside down and no one was inside the vehicle. A deputy located a male in the ditch. The male was reported as being alive, but confused.

Deputies and FPTDLJ removed an unwanted male, who was intoxicated, from a residence in Poplar. The reporting party was punched in the nose. Cletus Onely, 36, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Oct. 5 Deputies received a report that a man was firing a gun while driving near Culbertson. Deputies located the male, who was heading south on Montana Highway 16. Richland County officials were notified. Deputies were able to detain the individual. John Panasuk, 41, was placed under arrest on authority of a warrant.

Deputies and Montana Highway Patrol responded to an incident on U.S. Highway 2 near Fort Kipp. A Ford Focus ran into a horse. The female driver was bleeding from the face. A total of four horses went in front of her vehicle. The horse died from its injuries.
