Culbertson’s Lone Bear Likes Running, Medical Information

Culbertson’s senior Jade Lone Bear’s enjoyment of running has benefited the school’s athletic programs during the past few years.

Lone Bear has been a member of the Culbertson/Bainville cross country program for three years and is one of the leaders on this year’s squad.

“I like the adrenaline I get when I pass a person in the race,” Lone Bear said.

She said she has improved each season and has the goal of finishing in the top 15 at this year’s state meet.

During track season, she competes in the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs. She also runs in the 1600-meter relay at times, but she doesn’t like it because the relay is right after the 3200.

Lone Bear came close to qualifying for the state meet in the 3200 last season and reaching the state meet is her goal for this spring.

She has played basketball for two years, but she struggled with an injury last year.

Her favorite class is anatomy and physiology.

“I get to learn about parts of the body, and it helps me to get closer to becoming a nurse,” she explained.

She worked at a clinic in Poplar during one summer and that increased her interest in medicine. “I learned a lot,” Lone Bear said.

Her favorite teacher in Culbertson is Elizabeth Standley because she is understanding.

Lone Bear has attended school in Culbertson for six years after going to classes at a Catholic school in Chicago.

“I miss the big city,” she admitted. “I miss all the different kinds of food that you can get there.”

She does like that there’s a lot less traffic in Culbertson.
