School Board Passes Hires, Cook Shack Expansion
The Culbertson School Board met in pre-session for budget training on July 15 at 5:30 p.m. and met in regular session at 6:30 p.m. Trustees present were Chris Petersen, Chair, Wendy Becker, Amber Fox, Lisa Steppler and Verlin Steppler. Representatives were Nicole Simonsen and Lora Finnicum.
A motion passed to adopt Policies 5231-P(3) Leaves of Absence, 1130 Committees, 7425 Extra-Curricular Funds and classified job descriptions. Discussion of weighted high school classes was postponed until August.
Culbertson’s baseball program presented plans on the expansion of the cook shack. The addition would be 16’X24’ build for approximately $8,300. Materials and labor will be provided by baseball with completion around late August. The motion was approved unanimously.
A motion was passed to approve the relocation of the storage shed closer to the bathhouse.
The board accepted resignations from Mary Hauso as custodian and Bill Carlisle as sixth grade advisor and annual advisor. A motion was approved to hire Barry Bighorn as JOM/Title I para/homeschool coordinator and Perla Burciaga as paraprofessional. Becker made amendment to re-open the position if Bighorn declines. A motion was passed to hire Emily Gabriel as secretary.
Motions were approved to hire Khrista Corpron as FFA advisor; Milt Apple for 10th grade advisor, Jimie Lou Morris for annual advisor, Dave Solem for head high school track coach, Mike Olson and Logan Nickoloff for assistant high school track coaches, Terri Sansaver for junior high/elementary head track coaches, Jenna Bowker and Steve Baldwin for junior high/elementary assistant track coaches, Jimie Lou Morris for head golf coach, Eddie Morris for assistant golf coachand Ronnie Shanks for elementary girls’ basketball coach.
A motion was passed to renew the MHSA application for activity dues, catastrophic and concussion insurance for 2025-26, as was a motion to renew the agreement with Sealey and Associates for bus driver drug testing.
Corpron was also approved for hire as vo ag teacher and Aaliyah Moon as elementary teacher. Mentor contracts were approved as follows: Elizabeth Standley for Corpron, Sarah Schmidt for Katie Clausen and Wendy Nickoloff for Moon.
Increases to individual and activity pass ticket prices were approved.
A motion was approved for the Emergency Action Plan as presented and required by MHSA, as was a motion to open the 25-26 guest teacher roster, as amended. Rates remain at $125 for certified and $100 for non-certified subs. The 25-26 bus routes were approved as amended, as was the activity bus driver roster for 25-26 and the 25-26 bus monitor roster. A motion was passed to post Policy 5140 Classified Employment and Assignment. The 25-26 class schedule was also approved.
The next meeting scheduled for Aug. 19, with budget training at 5 p.m.
