Board Extends Simonsen’s Contract

The Culbertson School Board has extended the contract for Superintendent of Schools Nicole Simonsen.
The superintendent’s contract now includes the upcoming school year plus two additional years. This was her second year of an initial three-year contract.
“I’m absolutely ecstatic,” Simonsen said of the contract extension. “I’m very excited with what the team is doing.”
One change during Simonsen’s time as superintendent has been switching to a semester class schedule from a trimester schedule.
“The change back to semesters was fabulous,” she explained. “Our students and teachers adjusted very well.”
After graduating from Culbertson High School, she earned her bachelors’ degree from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. Simonsen then served as a teacher in the Sidney School District for 12 years.
She was principal in Lambert for three years before becoming superintendent in Culbertson.
Trustees recently improved to purchase a new math curriculum based on the evaluation of teachers.
Simonsen said the school district is looking to hire at least one, if not two, kindergarten teacher. The class is anticipated to feature 20 students. A Montana residency program teacher might also provide assistance at that level.
Culbertson is also searching for a new agriculture teacher.
David Anderson has been hired as the new head girls’ basketball coach for Culbertson High School. The athletic committee interviewed two candidates for the position.
