Both the Culbertson School District and Froid School District will have contested school board elections on Tuesday, May 7. Don’t forget to vote.

In Culbertson, incumbent Mark Colvin is running again, along with Amber Fox and Lisa Steppler. Paul Finnicum decided not to seek re-election.

Voting times in Culbertson on May 7 are from noon to 8 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria.

Asked about promoting a positive image of the Culbertson School District, candidate Amber Fox said, “We’ve already been seeing some great things with the frequent social media posts and the daily emails also help a lot for those without social media. I think it helps that the school is more open with the community about the daily happenings or special events, not just sporting events.”

Candidate Lisa Steppler was asked about her views on the purpose of public education. She answered, “To prepare our children for successful careers and lives. This is done in the classroom and also with extra-curricular activities that build social skills and sense of community.”

Incumbent Mark Colvin was asked how he feels about collaboration with the Culbertson School staff. He said, “I think that in order to have a great school, it will take a team to make that happen. I would like to have some informal meetings like we did when we were doing strategic planning. I thought being able to get together with board members, staff members and community members in small groups and just visiting about the direction of the school was very productive.”

Voting in Froid is open from noon to 8 p.m. on May 7 in the school’s gym.
