Hospital District Voters Will Decide On Mill Levy To Benefit EMS In Area

Voters in the Culbertson Hospital District will have the decision whether to approve a 9 mill levy request for Emergency Medical Services in the Culbertson, Bainville and Froid areas.

Roosevelt County commissioners approved allowing the election during their weekly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

“It gives the voters a chance to decide on it,” Roosevelt County Commissioner Robert Toavs said of approving the election. “It puts it in your hands.”

According to a letter to commissioners from Roosevelt Medical Center administrator Audrey Stromberg, the board of trustees for the Culbertson Froid Bainville Healthcare Corp. approved a motion at their meeting on Jan. 30, to request a 9 mill voted levy upon the taxable property of the Culbertson Hospital Districts 17, 64 and 65 to raise funds for Emergency Medical Services.

The funds will be used to provide emergency medical services to area residents.

The mill levy is expected to be permanent. The hospital currently receives 3 mills annually. The request will be an addition to that amount.

The nine mills will generate $145,377 per year. The impact of nine mills on a home value at $100,000 will be approximately $12.15 and on a home valued at $200,000 will be approximately $24.30.

The date of the special election has been scheduled for May 2. Commissioners said the election administrator will decide whether it will be a mail-in ballot election.
